Eve Arnold and the vulnerable sitter…

On January 4th, the world lost a great photographer in Eve Arnold.

Now as much as she sounds like an amazing woman (not having any personal connection to her myself, unlike here), I don’t want to just write another obituary, I think plenty of people have covered that off better than I ever could.  Once the anecdotes have been recounted, history written and life appraised, I want to talk about what is left now that she is gone: the photographs.

Exhibition Review: Larry Fink “Somewhere there’s music…”, at Third Floor Gallery, Cardiff

It seems apt that my opening here at Flash, Crash, Zoom… is to look at another opening… of a new exhibition of Larry Fink‘s photography.  In this exhibition, Larry Fink has captured the journey that is a jazz scene managing survival as the city moves on.  In Third Floor Gallery, the exhibition has found a kindred spirit, on the fringes, itself a cool, little club providing for a niche art in this world of American Idol and X Factor.  Together it is a wonderful mix that I really do recommend you see.
